I am pleased to announce the inaugural issue of the Journal of African Community and Development (JACAD). JACAD is devoted to publishing original research offering more accurate, richer representations of the African continent and its people. The complex and dynamic local and global issues historically affecting African communities and development have continuously engaged the attention of scholars and policymakers. JACAD provides scholars a platform to offer their unique and diverse perspectives on these issues to promote a better understanding of the totality of the African experience.
The articles published in this issue provide a scholarly lens to fully appreciate the place of education, politics, governance, democratization, agriculture, drama, accounting, culture, mother tongue, climate change, feminism, urban space, science, and migration in strengthening the richness, vitality, and challenges currently facing our African communities. By analyzing how these critical issues dictate the development of Africa and its diaspora during the precolonial, colonial, and postcolonial periods, these articles recast our understanding of modern Africa's problems, the progress made, and the promise that exists. Suitable for scholars, students, and general readers eager to enhance their understanding of the issues dominating the continent's history, this issue emphasizes the appreciation of key African issues in their proper historical contexts.
The twelve articles in this issue will undoubtedly engage our thinking about how global forces have intermingled with domestic elements to shape Africa's political, social, and economic landscape. Authors are encouraged to submit their best research papers to JACAD, a peer-reviewed, open-access journal, and enjoy a wide readership from publishing in the journal. Open to different but rigorous research methodologies—and insisting on manuscripts that make original and compelling contributions to knowledge—JACAD welcomes submissions focusing on African studies since the precolonial period. This publication was made possible by the dedication of JACAD's editorial board, the editorial assistant, authors, external reviewers, and the Patience and Claudius Anyanwu Foundation. We thank you and will continue to count on you in what promises to be many more successful years of JACAD.
